I recently worked with Hendrik on his excellent script The Existential Hotline. A short film he directed himself to raise money for the NHS. I agreed to do the film based on his writing and script. As it was to a specific remit, I was immediately impressed by the format he exploited so deftly to convey broad and salient themes during these unprecedented times. The nods to well-known philosophers and their writings married seamlessly with a very modern and contemporary setting and themes of the human condition.
As a director he was clear, concise, supportive and crucially for me ‘moved on’ when he’d got what he needed from the actors. I couldn’t fault his editorial choices.
Since working together we have shared each other’s work and I’ve been lucky enough to plunder his brilliant mind for smart and inciteful notes on my own scripts. We intend to work together again soon and I very much look forward to developing a working relationship with Hendrik in the future.
